Does anyone know and effective way to deal with trichotrillomania?

I have been dealing with trich since I was in 5th grade. Trichotrillomania is a form of OCD where you pull hair mostly but not limited to eyelashes, eyebrows, underarm, pretty much anywhere there is hair. I have been dealing with the eyelash pulling personally but since I am going to be a senior this year I really want to stop at least for my senior pictures, gradyation, debutant ball, and stuff like that. There have been times when I have stopped pulling for a while due to just a feeling of pure oblivion that I am not pulling but as soon as I become nervous, scared, upset, or bored out of my mind I start to pull. Can anyone help b/c I have tried the stress ball and putting lemon juice on my nails so my eye would burn but that doesn't work any other suggestions?
Answer:
you could always have your entire body waxed! if there is no hair to pull out then its problem solved!
Yeah, you just slap that OCD in the face. It works every time.
You must seek profession advice about this NOW. Trichotrillomania is far better understood these days and there is help available to you. Go to your doctor and ask to be referred to a specialist who can help you.
How strange, as I was just reading up on this problem. Though I am not afflicted with this, I've had tons of ocd-related habits that I've dealt with growing up. At this point, I've noticed that I have a proclivity of trading one habit for another-so just being aware of the issue has allowed for some relief. I laugh at myself a lot, and I don't mean to sound like I'm minimalizing it-it helps to interrupt the pure satisfaction of the habit.

And that's the thing, retraining yourself not to do something that you are inclined to do. I'd say, wear thick gloves for the time frames that you'd normally do this activity, at least for a few days.

Just really focus on being creative, finding your own way of discliplining yourself. And don't ever feel like you are the only one, many of us have bad habits-despite having a diagnosis with so many syllabals. Good luck to you!
man that is terrrible. Your seeing a counselor i am sure right?
Well you get laser hair removal lol...but i know that it is obviously a stress issue. If counseling isn't working and if other methods prove to no avail.
When you have time. Sit down maybe grab a pen and paper, and give yourself a self examination.
Ask yourself:
Why do i do this?
What triggers me to do this?
When do i not do this?
What methods or hobbies preoccupy my nervousness?
What could i do other than hurt myself?

Take yourself through a thourough personal examination
you need to understand why you are doing this to yourself and what you can do to stop yourself.
What sorts of things do you like to do.
When you get bored go eat or play sports or draw maybe sing. you could write find hobbies that you like and preoccupy your time with something other than pulling.

I can't tell you much more at this time. Its a habit for you now and you need a way to break it. If you aren't seeing counseling i suggest someone you can talk to who you love and trust and know will understand you.
good luck
I am sure you won't want to look bald and bashfull for your senior year.
^_^
鈾?
My friend has this...she finally went to see a dr. and she is currently taking medication. It has helped her tremendously!
obviously you do that because you have an more complex phycological problem.
do you feel depressed or neglected or angry about anything? are you treated bad by anyone? try talking to a friend to your parents or someone who cares about you or go to a psycologist. try to focus on the reason you do that and find out what really bothers you...and solve it
best way is to go see a psychiatrist. there are currently a lot of new %26 effective medicines out there to help you with OCD per se such as SSRI's (not sure specifically for trich) and definitely you will benefit from behavioral modification.
